In order to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to help them confidently enter university and firmly step on their future career path, the US Department of Education has researched and applied the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). They outline core knowledge and skills standards that are generally applicable to students from kindergarten to high school. Let’s discover basic information about this standard.

  1. What are Common Core State Standards?

The Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts that are established by America.

CCSS is designed based on the highest standards in the US states and countries around the world. This standard focuses on developing the critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that students will need to succeed in college and in the workplace. CCSS standards are particularly effective in helping students gain access to English from an early age.

Currently, in the United States, 41 states, the District of Columbia, 4 territories and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) voluntarily apply CCSS standards to the curriculum for students from kindergarten to high school. The standard has been effective in the United States and has been applied in many other countries around the world.

2. Common Core State Standards goals.

The Common Core Standards focus on:

  • Consistency and coherence in learning

  • Learning through practice and application of technology

  • Developing thinking ability

  • Arousing students’ curiosity and love of discovery

  • Expression, analysis, inference, and criticism to explain the achieved results in order to understand the problem deeply, not simply learning by memorizing.

The standard clearly points out the learning outcome requirements for students in each subject and grade.

Common Core Standards help students understand the subject thoroughly and be able to apply the knowledge learned to practice.
